Golf Croquet

Golf Croquet

Golf croquet began in England as a party game in the large country gardens circa 1890, but over time was supplanted by Association Rules croquet by serious competitive players. Golf croquet has been played competitively in Egypt since the 1950's at a high level of hard hitting and long hoop running. (1)

Golf croquet is increasing in popularity worldwide, with more golf croquet tournaments every year. (Not to overlook National and World Championships).
The major difference between golf croquet and other variations of croquet, namely Backyard, Association and USCA Rules, is that all players are constantly “in the game”. The other variations are a case of the player of the moment, continuing to score hoops, one after the other, until they miss a shot.

Golf Croquet Rules

Blue and Black team plays Red and Yellow team.

Toss coin. Winner plays Blue ball and plays f irst.

Every turn is one shot only.

Turns go in sequence, Blue, Red, Black, Yellow ,
then Blue, Red…

Everybody tries to make the first wicket.

The team that scores the wicket counts a point.
Then everybody goes for the next wicket.

No!, you cannot set up in front of the next wicket ahead and wait.
First team to score 4 of the 7 wickets wins.

Challenging and Strategic

Only in golf croquet does the current player have to assess the opponent’s next likely move, and their partner’s position, every time it is their turn.

The Jump Shot

The marvel of a jump shot, where the struck ball clears a ball that is hindering the making of a hoop, is a common occurrence.

The rules of golf croquet, and World Championships, are regulated by the World Croquet Federation.

Socializing

For croquet players not aspiring to be world champions, the interactive format and short games are ideal.

Spreading the Sport

Golf croquet is ideally suited for team building, charity and celebration group events.

Championship Tournaments

Croquet Canada sanctions an annual Canadian Open Golf Croquet Championship (usually hosted at the Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club)
Croquet Canada is allocated two player spots at World Championships, Women's World Championships, and Under 21 championships, as well as a berth in World Team Championships.

Why is it named Golf Croquet?

An early version of the game refers to Croquet-Golf, as mimicking the drives of golf. (2)
