Handicap Integration Taking Effect

Article Date : July 16, 1998

The integration of our handicapping system with that of the USCA, announced in the June issue, has now begun to take effect. Croq Can 98 entrants who had different handicaps in Croquet Canada and the USCA had their handicaps equalized effective the beginning of the tournament. In some cases the difference was substantial. The equalization led to a lowering of USCA handicaps for some Canadian players and in two cases the discussions led to a lowering of the handicaps in both systems. A similar process will precede upcoming tournaments.

With goodwill on both sides, there is every hope that if problems arise with the integration, they will be overcome. Meanwhile you should keep in mind that even with the best will and effort on both sides, some delays in the processing may arise. For example, if two tournaments are played in short succession and the first tournament results arrive after that of the second one, a delay is inevitable --- the tracking points of the second cannot be calculated until those of the first have been completed. Since we are now locked into a much larger system, the chances for this kind of delay to happen becomes increased.
