Re: Brief Test matches report
For those who haven't heard the news yet, here is a preliminary report about what happended in the test matches. I'll provide full details on a later occasion.
Canada vs Wales, 9 - 11 August
Format: In International Rules, each player (or doubles pair) played every player (doubles pair) of the opposing side for one game, without time limit. In USCA rules, 75 minute singles matches were played: each player against every opponent.
After Day 1 (Internatinal rules), Wales led 9 - 1.
In the 16 USCA rules singles matches of the second day, the split was 10 - 6 in our favor, giving Wales 15, Canada 11 up to that point.
The third day (remaining International Rules games) gave a 7- 3 split in favor of Wales for the overall result:
WALES 22, CANADA 14.
Canada vs Scotland, 14 - 16 August
Format: Two doubles pairs played every doubles pair on the opposing team. Each player played two singles mathces against each member of the opposing team: 2.5 hours for the first match and (4.5 less time of first match) for the second match.
After Day 1 (two doubles, eight singles), Canada led 6 - 4. In the morning session of Day 1, Scotland came back strongly to draw level and after Day 2, Scotland was in the lead 11 - 9.
The morning session of Day 3 resulted in a 4-4 split, so as we entered the final afternoon session, with eight singles games at stake, Scotland was still in the lead 15 - 13. Then Canada rallied heroically to get a 7-1 split, giving the final score:
CANADA 20, SCOTLAND 16.
Thus Canada won its first international test match in croquet!
